The Haunted Hathaways

A family of ghosts and a human family learn to coexist.

The Haunted Hathaways is an American television supernatural sitcom created by Robert Peacock. It aired on Nickelodeon from July 13, 2013, to March 5, 2015. The story centers on a divorced mother, Michelle Hathaway, who moves with her two daughters, Taylor and Frankie, to New Orleans to open a bakery. They discover their new home is already occupied by three ghosts: a single father named Ray Preston and his two sons, Miles and Louie. The two families learn to coexist and solve everyday problems by combining ghostly abilities with ordinary human approaches.

The main characters include Taylor Hathaway, a talented but easily agitated gymnast; her younger sister Frankie, who is considered odd by her peers and embraces living with ghosts; Miles Preston, the well-mannered older ghost son who tries hard to socialize with humans; and Louie Preston, the sarcastic younger ghost who loves haunting but hasn't mastered it, eventually becoming best friends with Frankie. Michelle Hathaway is a skilled baker who owns a bakery called Pie Squared, while Ray Preston prefers a laid-back lifestyle and struggles with disciplining his sons. Recurring characters include Emma, a clumsy and ditzy girl on Taylor's gymnastics team; Meadow, who gains the ability to see ghosts after an accident; Scott Tomlinson, Taylor's boyfriend; and Madame Lebeuf, a woman who exorcises unwanted ghosts.

Nickelodeon ordered the pilot in August 2012, directed by Bruce Leddy, and picked up 20 episodes in January 2013. Six additional episodes were ordered in August 2013, bringing the first season to 26 episodes. The series was renewed for a second season in October 2013, which began airing on June 28, 2014. Filming took place at Paramount Studios in Hollywood, California. The final episode aired on March 5, 2015.

The series premiered on Nickelodeon on July 13, 2013, and later aired on YTV, Nickelodeon in Australia and New Zealand, British Nickelodeon, Asian Nickelodeon, and African Nickelodeon. Critical reception was generally positive. David Hinckley of the New York Daily News praised its blend of traditional sitcom zaniness with supernatural elements. Sonia Saraiya of The A.V. Club called it unique and slightly convoluted, noting its interesting gender and racial breakdown. The pilot episode drew 3.3 million viewers, the highest of the series, with subsequent episodes scoring 2.8 million viewers.
