The story revolves around Bhoot Boss, the noble, disciplined leader of the trio, who is in charge of the Paap-O-Meter and keeps the level of sin on Earth in check. He is a mentor to Thakela and Pakela, lazy junior ghosts who often make situations worse when sent alone. Thakela is an adorable ghost boy who loves to sleep and eat, while Pakela is witty and plays pranks. Together, they live high in the sky in the ghost world and monitor Earth. In the newer seasons (from Season 5), the ghosts live on Earth and find sinners after a person undergoes a plight, rather than using the Paap-O-Meter to identify them directly.
