Bugs Bunny's Christmas Carol

In this eight-minute cartoon, which first aired on CBS on November 27, 1979, as part of the special *Bugs Bunny's Looney Christmas Tales*, Yosemite Sam plays Ebenezer Scrooge, Porky Pig is Bob Cratchit, and Tweety Bird takes the role of Tiny Tim. Bugs Bunny appears as both the ghost of Jacob Marley and Scrooge's nephew, Fred. The story skips the usual dream visits to Scrooge's past, present, and future; instead, Fred dresses up as Marley's ghost to scare the miser into changing his ways.

The plot begins with Scrooge counting money while Cratchit asks for a lump of coal to warm himself. Scrooge refuses, saying a lump given a week ago should have lasted. Fred arrives with decorations and is thrown out, vowing to teach Scrooge some Christmas spirit. Fred sneaks a piece of coal to Cratchit, but Scrooge's cat Sylvester alerts him. Scrooge takes back the coal, tosses out carolers Elmer Fudd, Pepe Le Pew, and Foghorn Leghorn, and fires Cratchit. Cratchit then joins Fred for dinner, where the Light Company seizes the family's last candle due to unpaid bills, and a foreclosure notice from Scrooge arrives, ordering the Cratchits out by midnight.

Fred retaliates by annoying Scrooge with more carolers, causing him to slip in snow, then dumping snow into Scrooge's hot bath. Dressed as Marley's ghost, Fred drags chains and beats a drum. Scrooge investigates, falls down the stairs into the cold with Sylvester, and later sees the ghost again. Sylvester flees, slamming the door on Scrooge. The ghost threatens to take Scrooge to "the man in the red suit" (whom Scrooge first mistakes for Santa). Scrooge reforms immediately, dresses as Santa, runs through the streets throwing cash at strangers, rehires Cratchit as his new partner, and accepts a toast from Tweety and a kiss from Fred—though he still hates kissing.

After the story ends, Bugs congratulates Sam on making Scrooge charitable, but Sam reveals it was all a play and demands everyone return his money.
